Overview
When I took over SEO content at the end of 2024, Keith & Lorfing had strong personal injury presence but virtually no criminal defense visibility.
The firm's attorneys had over a century of combined prosecutorial experience, a massive competitive advantage that wasn't being leveraged in their digital presence.
Over the next 12 months, I built out their criminal defense SEO while maintaining their personal injury momentum.
The result?
More than doubled their lead volume across every channel.
Firm Overview
Keith & Lorfing serves communities across Abilene, San Angelo, Lubbock, and Midland, Texas. The firm's target market is West Texas's blue-collar workforce—oil field workers, truckers, industrial workers, and local families who need tough, experienced representation.
What sets them apart: their attorneys bring over a century of combined experience as state and federal prosecutors. They've been on the other side of the courtroom. They know how prosecutors think, how they build cases, and how to dismantle their strategies.
This prosecutorial background is gold for criminal defense work. But at the end of 2024, almost no one searching for criminal defense attorneys in West Texas could find them organically.
The Challenge
Build criminal defense visibility and authority from scratch while maintaining momentum in established personal injury practice—a balancing act that required strategic resource allocation and careful keyword positioning.
Strategic Approach
Keyword Positioning: From 42 to 227 in Top 3
Content Strategy: 119 Pages
By December 2025, these pages drove 24,566 organic sessions—54.8% of all website traffic.
Think about that: in 12 months, the pages I created or modified became the primary traffic source for the entire website.
This graph tells the story: at the start of the year, my new pages were a small fraction of traffic. By December, they dominated. That's strategic content execution.
I didn't chase volume. I targeted keywords where the firm's prosecutorial background provided authentic competitive advantage.
The result? 227 keywords in top-3 positions by December 2025—up from just 42 in December 2024.
That's a 441% increase in the positions that actually drive phone calls.
These pie charts show the complete picture. We didn't just add keywords—we repositioned the entire keyword portfolio toward money positions.
I developed and published 119 strategically targeted pages throughout 2025. These weren't just blog posts, they were:
Criminal defense service pages
Location-specific landing pages
Educational content that demonstrated the firm's prosecutorial expertise
Specific “high-ticket” pages for DUI/DWI and Felony charges to attract big cases
Top Keyword Wins
Key wins from the data:
"Abilene Car Accident Lawyer" — improved 17 positions
"Car Accident Lawyer Abilene" — jumped 21 positions to #2
Page 1 visibility for Lubbock Criminal Defense Lawyer — improved 9 positions
272 total keyword improvements
1,007 new ranking keywords acquired
2,018 total ranking keywords by end of year
Why This Matters
Traffic doesn't come from ranking #47. It comes from the top three positions. That's where we focused, and that's where we won.
Methodology
Technical SEO audits and implementation
Content strategy development and execution
On-page optimization for conversion
Local SEO and GBP optimization

Results & Impact
Criminal defense expansion didn't cannibalize PI performance. Instead, it created topical authority that benefited both practices. The content I published grew from minimal contribution in January to over 50% of total traffic by December.
This wasn't about starting from zero, it was about identifying untapped opportunities within an established practice.
By targeting underserved West Texas markets with location-specific criminal defense content, we captured high-intent searches where the prosecutorial background messaging resonated with communities that value trust and local expertise.
The result: 119 strategically published pages drove 159% conversion growth while establishing Keith & Lorfing as a multi-practice powerhouse.
Watch the organic website calls: 130 to 457—a 252% jump.
That's the criminal defense content working. Prospects researching criminal charges were calling directly from the service pages I created.
